Senior Substation Engineer - Renewables

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly qualified Senior Substation Engineer to join their expanding Energy team in Portsmouth . This role is pivotal in the design, development, and commissioning of substations that are critical for connecting renewable energy sources to the national grid. You will provide expert technical leadership, ensure compliance with stringent safety and regulatory standards, and manage project timelines effectively. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering of high-voltage substations for renewable energy projects.
• Develop detailed designs, specifications, and drawings for substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.
• Oversee the procurement, installation, and commissioning phases of substation projects.
• Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., IEC, BS EN).
• Conduct site visits and technical reviews to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and grid operators to achieve project milestones.

Requirements

• BEng/MEng in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with Chartered Engineer status preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation engineering, specifically within the power generation or transmission sector .
• Proven experience in the design and commissioning of high-voltage AC and DC substations.
• In-depth knowledge of protection relays, control systems, and power system studies.
• Experience with project management methodologies and contract administration.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication abilities.
