Senior Urban Designer

About the Role

Our client, a leading multidisciplinary design consultancy based in Reading , is seeking an experienced Senior Urban Designer . This hybrid role offers a blend of collaborative office work and remote flexibility, allowing you to contribute to shaping the future of our built environments. You will be responsible for leading the design and development of urban masterplans and strategic development frameworks for significant regeneration and new-build projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of urban design principles, planning policy, and community engagement, with a passion for creating sustainable, vibrant, and well-connected places.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and strategic planning of urban masterplans and development frameworks.
• Collaborate with architects, landscape architects, transport planners, and other consultants to develop integrated design solutions.
• Prepare design concepts, masterplan diagrams, and design guidelines.
• Engage with stakeholders, including local authorities, community groups, and developers.
• Ensure designs respond to social, economic, and environmental context, promoting sustainability and place-making.
• Contribute to planning applications and policy work, advocating for high-quality urban design.

Requirements

• Professional qualification in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Planning.
• Significant experience in urban design , masterplanning, and place-making.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD , SketchUp , Adobe Creative Suite, and GIS software.
• Strong understanding of the UK planning system and development process.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to lead projects and mentor junior team members.
