Sessional Tutor Adult Learning

The Sessional Tutor Adult Learning will plan and deliver adult community learning courses for individuals and groups across Harrow. The role supports learners to achieve their learning outcomes in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment, following the Adult, Community and Family Learning Quality Improvement Framework. Courses may take place during the day, evening or weekend at community venues across the borough.

Duties

• Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality learning activities that enable learners to achieve their learning outcomes.
• Use initial, formative and summative assessments to inform planning and measure learner progress.
• Complete administrative records, including registers, lesson plans, schemes of work and records of progress.
• Develop appropriate activities and resources that engage, challenge and motivate learners.
• Identify individual needs and barriers to learning, including literacy, language and other core skills needs.
• Provide impartial information and advice about course placement and learner progression.
• Support examinations, assessments, enrolments, certification, quality assurance and continuing professional development activities.

• Recognised teaching qualification relevant to the subject area and teaching adults.
• Proven experience of teaching within an adult learning or further education setting.
• Knowledge of effective teaching, learning and assessment in the adult learning sector.
• Understanding of new learners, learning styles and lifelong learning.
• Good interpersonal, presentation and teaching skills, with the ability to listen and relate to learners.

• Understanding of diversity and equality issues within the post-16 education sector.
• Experience of working with community and voluntary organisations.
• Experience of teaching an accredited programme, where relevant.

The role is based at Kenton Learning Centre, with courses delivered primarily at community venues across Harrow. Occasional evening, weekend and off-site working is required.
