SHEQ Manager - Water

SHEQ Manager – Water Division Washington, North East | Up to £70,000 + £5,000 Car Allowance

We are currently recruiting for an experienced SHEQ Manager to join the Water Division of a growing infrastructure business, taking responsibility for SHEQ delivery across a major long-term utilities contract in the North East.

This is a senior role within the business, with 2 SHEQ Advisors reporting directly into you and responsibility for leading SHEQ across a significant contract.

The successful candidate must have previous experience as the SHEQ lead on a large contract or framework, ideally within the water or wider utilities sector.

While water experience is highly desirable, we're also interested in strong SHEQ professionals from other major utilities and infrastructure environments who can demonstrate excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

The Role

The successful candidate will be predominantly **office-based in Washington**, providing strategic and operational SHEQ leadership across the contract.

Key responsibilities include:

• Act as the SHEQ lead for a major contract / framework.
• Lead and manage SHEQ performance across the contract.
• Manage, mentor and support 2 SHEQ Advisors.
• Act as a key SHEQ point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across client, operational and supply chain teams.
• Ensure SHEQ policies, procedures and standards are effectively implemented.
• Monitor performance, identify areas for improvement and drive positive change.
• Support operational teams with risk management, audits, inspections and compliance.
• Lead investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
• Promote a strong culture of health, safety, environmental and quality excellence.
• Provide clear and effective SHEQ reporting to senior management and key stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with people across all levels of the organisation and wider project environment.

About You

We're looking for an experienced SHEQ professional who combines strong technical knowledge with exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.

Essential:

• Proven experience acting as the SHEQ lead on a large contract or framework.
• Experience managing SHEQ across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to engage confidently with people at all levels, from operational teams through to senior management and client representatives.
• Experience managing and developing SHEQ professionals.
• A pragmatic, collaborative approach to problem solving.

Highly Desirable:

• Previous water sector experience.
• Experience within utilities, infrastructure or major construction.
• Relevant SHEQ qualifications such as NEBOSH / IOSH or equivalent.

Salary & Package

?? Up to £70,000 basic salary ?? £5,000 car allowance ?? Washington, North East England ?? 2 SHEQ Advisors reporting into the role ?? Predominantly office-based

A permanent appointment is preferred, although experienced freelance / contract professionals will also be considered.
