SHEQ Manager

Commercial Landscape Construction | Near Slough

£55,000 - £65,000 | Full-time, permanent | Hybrid

We are working with a successful and award-winning commercial landscape construction and maintenance contractor to recruit a SHEQ Manager. This is a great opportunity to join a well-established business delivering high-quality hard and soft landscaping schemes, maintenance services and specialist features across ground-level, podium and roof-terrace environments.

With more than 300 employees, annual turnover exceeding £40 million and projects ranging from approximately £100,000 to more than £10 million, this is a substantial business offering plenty of variety. The role is hands-on and visible across the business, with a minimum of one day each week at the office near Slough and regular travel to project sites across London and the South of England.

Applications are welcomed from experienced SHEQ Managers, HSEQ Managers, Construction SHEQ Managers and Health and Safety Managers who have practical environmental, quality and integrated management-system experience.

The role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will provide practical, knowledgeable SHEQ advice and support across the full project lifecycle, from tender and pre-construction through mobilisation, construction and handover to ongoing landscape maintenance. You will work closely with Directors, managers, employees, contractors and project teams, as well as line managing and developing a SHE Apprentice.

What you will be doing

• Provide competent and practical SHEQ advice across construction projects and maintenance operations.

• Maintain and continually improve SHEQ policies, procedures, RAMS, inspection systems and the Integrated Management System.

• Plan inspections and audits, investigate incidents, manage non-conformities and monitor corrective actions through to completion.

• Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, including audits, evidence, surveillance, recertification and compliance portals.

• Advise on CDM 2015, contractor competence and project assurance from tender and pre-construction through to handover and maintenance.

• Maintain training and competency arrangements, deliver SHEQ training and line manage and develop the SHE Apprentice.

What we are looking for

• Operational Health & Safety experience gained within landscaping or building construction, with practical experience of wider SHEQ systems.

• Practical working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 within an Integrated Management System.

• A relevant occupational Health & Safety qualification and strong knowledge of CDM 2015, RAMS and core construction legislation.

• Experience of audits, inspections, incident investigation, non-conformities and corrective-action close-out.

• Experience maintaining training and competence records, delivering SHEQ training and coaching or mentoring less-experienced colleagues.

• A full UK driving licence, willingness to travel regularly and the ability to attend the office near Slough for at least one day each week.

Experience that would be useful

• Direct commercial landscaping or landscape-construction experience.

• External ISO audit, surveillance, recertification, Constructionline or similar compliance-portal experience.

• Lead Auditor training, relevant professional membership, Appointed Person or Temporary Works Coordinator experience.

• Sustainability, Building Safety Act, National Highway Sector Schemes or streetworks knowledge.

What is on offer

• Salary of £55,000 - £65,000, dependent on experience.

• 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
