Smart Grid Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for an innovative Smart Grid Engineer to contribute to the development and implementation of next-generation grid technologies in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire . This role is central to modernizing the electricity network, focusing on integrating renewable energy sources, enhancing grid stability, and improving operational efficiency through digital solutions. You will work on exciting projects involving smart metering , demand-side management, and advanced grid control systems. This is a key position for an engineer passionate about the future of energy and the transition to a more sustainable and intelligent power infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain components of the smart grid infrastructure , including communication networks and control systems.
• Analyse grid performance data to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, reliability, and resilience.
• Develop and test new algorithms and software for grid automation and control.
• Integrate distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar PV and battery storage into the grid.
• Ensure cybersecurity best practices are implemented across all smart grid systems.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies and other utilities on standardization and interoperability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on smart grid technologies or distribution networks.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems , IoT technologies, and communication protocols used in smart grids.
• Knowledge of renewable energy integration challenges and solutions.
• Experience with data analysis and programming for control systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
