Solar PV Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Solar PV Design Engineer to contribute to their growing renewable energy projects in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK . This role involves the technical design and optimization of photovoltaic systems for a variety of applications, including commercial, industrial, and utility-scale installations. You will work closely with project managers, installation teams, and clients to deliver high-performance solar solutions. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining office-based collaboration with the flexibility of remote work, enabling you to apply your technical expertise to impactful solar projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer custom solar photovoltaic (PV) systems , including site layout, module selection, and electrical schematics.
• Perform energy yield assessments and system performance simulations using specialized software.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant building codes, electrical standards, and safety regulations.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, Bill of Materials (BOM), and installation guidelines.
• Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to ensure accurate material ordering and efficient installation.
• Conduct site visits and feasibility studies as required for project assessment and design verification.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the design of solar PV systems .
• Proficiency with PV design software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar.
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, grid connection requirements, and energy storage systems.
• Familiarity with local building regulations and renewable energy incentives .
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model , with strong communication skills.
