Solar PV Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Solar PV Design Engineer to join their expanding team in Sheffield . This role focuses on the detailed design and technical specification of photovoltaic (PV) systems for a variety of commercial and utility-scale projects. You will be responsible for creating efficient and compliant system designs, ensuring optimal performance and integration. Working within a hybrid model, you’ll have the flexibility to balance office-based design work with remote productivity, contributing to the growth of solar energy across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed electrical designs for solar PV systems , including single-line diagrams, string layouts, and component selection.
• Perform energy production estimations and system performance analysis using specialized software.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards (e.g., BS 7671), and local regulations.
• Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical specifications for all system components.
• Collaborate with project managers, installation teams, and clients to ensure design feasibility and implementation success.
• Conduct site assessments and review existing infrastructure for PV system integration.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of experience in the design of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems .
• Proficiency with PV design software (e.g., PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD).
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, solar technology, and grid interconnection requirements.
• Knowledge of relevant UK building codes and electrical safety standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.
