Location: Archway Road, Huyton, Liverpool, Merseyside, L36 9YU, Knowsley Borough Council
1 day in the office, 3 days remote

Main Purpose of Job:
This is the main purpose or objective of the job – a short statement of why the job exists
To provide legal and procedural advice and services, primarilty in the area of Employment Law, in the most effective and efficient way to meet the requirements of the Council, Cabinet and other member bodies, Services and Departments.
Main Responsibilities
The jobholder will be expected to complete the responsibilities / accountabilities effectively in order to deliver the key objectives of the organisation
- Deliver high quality legal advice and services to internal and external clients of Legal Services, primarily related to Employment Law but also, where appropriate, on civil and criminal litigation, education (including SEND) and housing law matters, and regulatory matters including trading standards, licensing, environmental and planning enforcement and Assets of Community Value nominations) but also to include such other matters as the post holder may be assigned from time to time.
- To have care and conduct of a caseload of of primarily Employment law legal work.
Job Activities:
Undertake the general work of a local government solicitor as directed from time to time in particular:
- To carry a caseload of primarily Employment law legal work, largely unsupervised, and to be responsible for completing all aspects of the task in accordance with good legal practice and client service .
- To appear on behalf of the Council as an advocate at the Employment Tribunal for preliminary hearings. To appear from time to time as directed in other courts and tribunals (Magistrates' Court and SEND Tribunal)
- To instruct Counsel when appropriate or advised and to assist Counsel in the presentation of cases to the Court when necessary.
- To operate and/or undertake such systems and procedures as are deemed necessary for the effective provision of the service including those relating to the maintenance of case management information and Litigation Team budget monitoring.
- To keep and maintain appropriate legal records, including time recording.
- To ensure compliance with the Law Society's professional standards for Solicitors (where appropriate) and the Council's own internal policies, rules and procedures.
- To carry out such other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post as may be determined.
