Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their support services in Sunderland . This vital role involves ensuring that all students with special educational needs receive the appropriate support and opportunities to achieve their full potential within the school environment. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement effective Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and to champion inclusive practices. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and review the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy and provision.
• Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the SEND policy, ensuring it is understood and enacted by all staff.
• Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure effective collaboration and support for students.
• Oversee the assessment and identification of students with SEND, and ensure appropriate support strategies are in place.
• Provide training and support to teaching staff on best practices for supporting students with diverse needs.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., National SEN Award).
• Significant experience in teaching and supporting students with a range of SEND needs.
• In-depth knowledge of national SEND legislation and guidance.
• Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
