About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their inclusive education provision at a mainstream primary school in Belfast . This pivotal role involves developing and implementing the school's SEN strategy, ensuring that all students with special educational needs receive the support required to thrive academically and socially. You will work closely with teaching staff, parents, external agencies, and the students themselves to create a fully supportive and accessible learning environment. This position is crucial for maintaining the school's commitment to equal opportunities and high-quality education for every child.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and review the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy.
• Coordinate the provision of support for students with a wide range of SEND, including learning, physical, sensory, communication, and emotional/social needs.
• Liaise effectively with parents, carers, and relevant external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, health services).
• Support and train teaching staff on best practices for supporting students with SEND.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to the annual review process for students with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Relevant postgraduate qualification or recent, substantial training in SEND coordination (e.g., National Award for SEN Coordination).
• Significant experience working with students with special educational needs.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Thorough understanding of current SEND legislation and guidance in Northern Ireland.
