Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to oversee and develop their provision for students with special educational needs in Leeds . This vital role involves working collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that all students, regardless of their needs, receive the appropriate support to achieve their full academic and personal potential. The SENCO will be responsible for implementing effective strategies, managing resources, and promoting an inclusive educational environment within the school, playing a key role in the lives of students in West Yorkshire .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy.
• Coordinate the day-to-day provision for students with SEND, ensuring effective support strategies are in place.
• Work closely with class teachers to identify pupils needing additional support and to implement appropriate interventions.
• Liaise with parents/carers, external agencies, and professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to support.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all students with SEND, including Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans.
• Advise and train other teaching staff on SEND-related matters and best practices.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with relevant experience teaching students with SEND.
• National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (or equivalent qualification/willingness to obtain).
• In-depth knowledge of current SEND legislation and best practices.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including students, staff, parents, and external professionals.
