Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and proactive Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join a supportive secondary school in Edinburgh . This vital role involves leading the school's approach to supporting students with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will work closely with teaching staff, parents, external agencies, and the students themselves to ensure effective provision and integration, fostering an inclusive environment where all learners can achieve their full potential. This is a key leadership position for an individual passionate about advocating for and supporting vulnerable students within the educational framework of Scotland .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor the school's SEND policy and provision.
• Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the SEND Code of Practice.
• Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a collaborative approach to student support.
• Support and advise teaching staff on meeting the needs of students with SEND.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all students with SEND.
• Track the progress of students with SEND and ensure appropriate interventions are in place.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (or commitment to obtaining it).
• Proven experience in a teaching role, with a significant focus on supporting students with SEND.
• In-depth knowledge of current legislation and best practice relating to SEND.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
