Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to play a pivotal role within a supportive primary school in Cardiff . This hybrid role offers a blend of on-site responsibilities and the flexibility to manage certain tasks remotely. You will be instrumental in ensuring that all pupils with special educational needs receive the support they require to thrive academically and socially. This position requires a deep understanding of SEND legislation and best practices, working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create an inclusive learning environment for every child, contributing significantly to the school's ethos of support and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the school's SEND policy and provision, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
• Coordinate the day-to-day provision for pupils with SEND, including managing support staff and resources.
• Work closely with teachers to identify pupils needing additional support and to develop effective intervention strategies.
• Liaise with parents/carers and relevant external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, health services) to support pupils’ needs.
• Monitor the progress of pupils with SEND and report on their attainment and well-being.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent qualification.
• National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination or willingness to undertake it.
• Significant experience working with pupils with a range of special educational needs.
• Thorough knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
