Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their support services at a prominent school in Sunderland . In this crucial role, you will oversee the provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive the appropriate support to achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers, parents, external agencies, and the students themselves to develop and implement effective education and support plans. This is a senior position requiring a proactive approach and a deep commitment to inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and review the school's SEND policy and provision in line with current legislation.
• Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the SEND code of practice, ensuring compliance.
• Support and advise teaching staff on differentiation strategies and appropriate interventions for students with SEND.
• Liaise with parents/carers, external specialists, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to support.
• Manage the assessment of students' needs, including the application for Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all students with SEND and their support plans.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with significant experience in a teaching role.
• The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (or willingness to undertake).
• Thorough understanding of national legislation and guidance relating to SEND.
• Proven experience in coordinating SEND provision within a school setting.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
