Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and highly organised Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join a supportive primary school in Sunderland . This vital role focuses on ensuring that all students with special educational needs receive the appropriate support and opportunities to achieve their academic and personal best. You will work closely with teachers, parents, external agencies, and the students themselves to develop and implement effective support strategies. This position is crucial to maintaining an inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported in Tyne and Wear .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy.
• Coordinate the day-to-day provision of education for students with SEND.
• Liaise with parents, external agencies, and other professionals to support student progress.
• Advise and train school staff on SEND best practices and strategies.
• Maintain accurate records and oversee the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• National Award for SEN Coordination or willingness to undertake it.
• Significant experience working with students with a range of SEND.
• Thorough knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and collaborative skills.
