Specialist Support Assistant - Autism

About the Role

Our client is seeking a compassionate and skilled Specialist Support Assistant to work with students on the Autism spectrum within a supportive educational setting in Plymouth . Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with autism, as directed by teachers and specialists.
• Assist pupils in accessing learning activities, adapting materials and methods as needed.
• Support the development of social communication and interaction skills.
• Help manage challenging behaviours constructively, using positive reinforcement strategies.
• Accompany students on educational visits, ensuring their safety and engagement.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and report observations to the relevant staff.

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young adults with autism or similar learning needs.
• A patient, empathetic, and understanding approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a dedicated support team.
• Willingness to undertake further training relevant to supporting students with SEND.
• Knowledge of different communication strategies and behavioural support techniques would be advantageous for this role in Plymouth .
