We are recruiting for a full-time Specialty Doctor to join our Buckinghamshire mental health directorate, rotating through various teams in accordance with the doctor’s professional development needs and service needs. This role would be ideal for candidates looking to progress their career along the Certificate C or portfolio pathways.

Areas of may include (but not limited to) CAMHS, older adult, adult Crisis Team and adult inpatient. You'll need to be willing to work across the County; posts are mainly based in High Wycombe and Aylesbury. SPA time can be used to attend MRCPsych preparation course and psychotherapy training amongst other educational activities. There is also the option to join the resident out-of-hours rota.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).Join us and play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred mental health care across Buckinghamshire.

Main duties of the job

• Under the supervision of the team's consultant psychiatrist, provide senior medical input to the team.
• Undertaking assessments, providing treatment and working with patients and their families. The specialty doctor is expected to work closely with other members of the team and to provide a range of assessment and treatment services.
• Provide assessment and liaison with the referrer, including consulting to the referrer as required, management and treatment of patients under the supervision of a consultant. This includes: psychiatric evaluations and mental state examinations and prescription of appropriate treatments in line with NICE guidance. Work is undertaken with the multidisciplinary team and includes both routine, urgent and emergency referrals.
• Providing timely written correspondence to relevant professionals documenting assessments, ongoing management, progress, and discharge letters using Trust IT and clinical records system – training will be provided where needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Adult Mental Health service in Buckinghamshire

The Adult Mental Health service in Buckinghamshire serves a population of ; approximately aged 18 to 65. The service comprises of: Inpatient pathway: This includes two acute wards – 17-bedded female acute ward (Ruby Ward) and 20-bedded male acute wards (Sapphire Ward), and one rehabilitation ward (Opal Ward). PICU for the whole service (Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire) is located at Littlemore Hospital, Oxford. Urgent care pathway: The urgent care pathway provides extended hours service and operates a 24/7.

They work closely with staff on the inpatient wards, out of hours GPs and colleagues from the emergency services to support patients who are experiencing a crisis or require urgent mental health care input. The pathway comprises two Crisis Teams (North and South), Psychiatric Liaison Service (PLS), based at the nearby Stoke Mandeville Hospital, and a street triage service. Community Pathway: Referrals into the community pathway are mainly processed via The Gateway, a referral triage, brief assessment and signposting service.

The pathway includes three Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs). The CMHTs provide all routine assessments and treatment of patients with severe and enduring mental illness. In addition to the CMHTs, the Bucks community pathway includes: a county-wide Early Intervention for Psychosis (BEIS), county-wide Perinatal Service, personality disorder pathways spanning from primary care the Complex Needs service, Bucks Psychological Therapies Service, and Bucks Adult Eating Disorder Service.

Desirable criteria

• Section 12 (2) approval
• Attendance at MRCPsych course or equivalent
