Job Description
We’re seeking a Specification Technologist to join our technical team in Gateshead.
Reporting to the Specification Manager, this role is responsible for the creation, maintenance and submission of customer specifications, pack copy and artwork approval. Working closely with Technical, NPD, Sales and European colleagues, you will ensure product information is accurate, compliant and delivered to customer deadlines. The role also provides support across quality management systems, internal auditing activities and legislative compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately input and maintain information within retailer and supplier specification portals
- Create, manage and submit customer specifications to agreed deadlines
- Review retailer, supplier and own-brand pack copy to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Proofread and approve artwork against legal requirements and customer codes of practice
- Support projects throughout the concept-to-launch process
- Gather, review and maintain nutritional and product information
- Manage customer portal documentation including certificates and supporting records
- Prioritise workload effectively during busy and seasonal launch periods
- Support the management of raw material specifications and associated documentation
- Assist with quality management system activities, including internal audits, document control, traceability and recall exercises
- Work collaboratively with European colleagues to develop and maintain effective ways of working
- Keep up to date with UK and EU food legislation and communicate relevant changes
- Respond to customer enquiries relating to recipes, allergens, nutritional information, country of origin and raw materials
- Support cross-functional teams by providing accurate and timely technical information
Skills & Experience:
- Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or a related discipline
- Previous experience working within the food manufacturing industry
- Experience using retailer specification portals is essential
- Strong understanding of UK and EU food legislation and legal compliance requirements
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
