Job Introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for an SPR in Emergency Medicine (relocation benefits available), you would be joining an NHS Trust committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community to a very high standard.

The trust currently provides a service for over 110,000 annual emergency department (ED) patient attendances. The department features 4 Resus bays, 4 High care bays, 13 majors cubicles, a separate minors area with 5 consulting rooms, and an audio-visually separate paediatric waiting area with 3 paediatric cubicles. It has a designated Trauma Unit within the BBCHW Trauma Network, offering PPCI, Vascular Surgery, inpatient ENT and Maxillofacial Surgery, and countywide Hyperacute Stroke Service.

The department has a strong record in delivering education and training to junior doctors in Emergency Medicine (EM). Recent successes include a bid for newly commissioned ST3 and ACCS posts, complementing the existing ST4+ training post and piloting the innovative Clinical Educator role. The Directorate also includes experienced consultants supporting the CESR programme. The consultant team possesses interests such as:

Main Responsibilities

Clinical

• Offer opinions on a wide range of presenting conditions in the emergency department in the UK healthcare setting.
• Take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
• Lead resuscitation or trauma teams with indirect supervision from a senior clinician.
• Demonstrate knowledge in subspecialties such as Trauma & Orthopaedics.
• Cover a full shift roster with a balanced mix of earlies, lates, and nights.
• Contribute to departmental, trust, and national objectives.

Organisational

• Support the development of the service.
• Participate actively in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Engage in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
• Develop clinical protocols, guidelines, and care bundles.
• Carry out responsibilities with regard to the Trust's Equal Opportunities Policy.
• Ensure all duties are performed to the highest standard.
• Support senior doctors in managing shifts collaboratively with nurses and the multidisciplinary team.

The Ideal Candidate

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• GMC registration in process.
• Gained at least 2 years of experience in Emergency Medicine or equivalent training, or demonstrated achievement of required competencies.
• GMC in process.
• Desirable: MRCEM or FRCEM primary and intermediate.
