Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: Taylors Lane Highways Depot or any Sandwell location
Sandwell Council is seeking a motivated and skilled Street Lighting Gang Leader to join our Highways Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team delivering essential street lighting maintenance, repairs fault finding and installation works across the borough.
About the Role
Lead and supervise a team carrying out installation, maintenance and repair of street lighting and illuminated street furniture.
Coordinate daily works, provide technical guidance and ensure service targets are achieved. Undertake electrical testing, fault finding and inspection activities in compliance with relevant legislation.
Drive and operate specialist vehicles, plant and equipment, including access platforms where authorised.
Maintain high standards of health and safety and customer service.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 2365 Level 3, 2360 Part 2 or 2330 Level 3).
- Minimum three years’ experience in street lighting installation, maintenance and fault finding.
- Experience leading, supervising or mentoring operatives in a highway electrical environment.
- Current full driving licence.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety, street lighting assets and safe systems of work.
This is an excellent opportunity to join Sandwell Council Highways Services and play a key role in maintaining and improving the borough’s street lighting infrastructure.

Desirable qualifications include G39, ECS Gold Card, City & Guilds 2391, 18th Edition and HERS registration.
