About the Role
Our client seeks a detail-oriented Substation Design Engineer to join their expanding engineering department in Edinburgh . This hybrid role focuses on the design and specification of electrical substations for various energy infrastructure projects, including grid connections and renewable energy integration. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of power transmission and distribution networks. The ideal candidate will possess strong electrical engineering fundamentals and a commitment to delivering high-quality design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical designs for high-voltage substations, including single-line diagrams, schematics, and layouts.
- Specify power transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and other substation equipment.
- Conduct load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination studies using industry-standard software.
- Prepare technical specifications, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and design reports for substation projects.
- Liaise with project managers, site engineers, and external vendors to ensure design integrity and project execution.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international electrical engineering standards and codes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in the design of electrical substations for power transmission and distribution.
- Proficiency with substation design software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E) and CAD tools.
- Good understanding of high-voltage equipment and protection systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, collaborating with team members both remotely and in the office.
