Substation Engineer - HV Electrical Systems

About the Role

Our client is seeking a technically proficient Substation Engineer to join their team in Portsmouth , responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of high-voltage (HV) substations. This critical role ensures the safe and efficient operation of the power grid by managing essential infrastructure. You will work on a variety of projects, from new substation developments to upgrades and refurbishments, ensuring all work meets stringent safety and engineering standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses a strong understanding of HV electrical systems, and is committed to delivering reliable energy infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify HV substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, busbars, and protection systems.
• Oversee the construction and commissioning of new substations and upgrades, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety protocols.
• Develop and implement maintenance and testing strategies for substation assets to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to substation operations and equipment failures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety procedures.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation, and project plans related to substation engineering activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in HV substation design, construction, or maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of HV electrical principles, protection schemes, and power system analysis.
• Experience with AutoCAD or other relevant design software.
• Familiarity with project management principles and site supervision.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
