Job Description
On behalf of UKAEA (UK Atomic Energy Authority) we are looking for a Systems Engineer (INSIDE IR35) for a contract which runs up to the end of April 2027 and is a hybrid role so requires a minimum of 2 days a week onsite in Oxford
UKAEA run the UK's national fusion energy research programme, sponsored by the Government's Department for Energy Security & Net Zero. They are on a mission to deliver safe, sustainable, low-carbon energy from fusion, achieving maximum scientific and economic benefit along the way.
As a Systems Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:
* Provision of systems engineering support to decommissioning and demolition work packages.
* Provision of systems engineering support to definition of new facilities and system upgrades linked to decommissioning and waste disposal.
* Support may include assistance to the Post Operational Clear Out (POCO) team to help identify hazards and interdependencies, plus opportunities for cost savings through the de-activation of sub-systems that no longer need to be kept operational.
Essential Skills
* Knowledge and experience of Systems Engineering that may include from nuclear, defence, automotive or naval sectors.
* Extensive experience of applying systems engineering.
* Demonstrable ability to grasp the basics of an engineering concept and explore wider implications.
* Previous experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience of interacting across a range of engineering disciplines e.g. mechanical, nuclear, electrical, software.
* Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Skills
* Professional registration as Chartered Engineer would be beneficial.
* Membership of, or accreditation with, INCOSE would be beneficial.
Qualifications
* Engineering or scientific degree is essential for this role.
