About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled and reliable Telecoms Cabling Engineer to join their team in Portsmouth . This hands-on role is fundamental to the installation and maintenance of the physical infrastructure that underpins modern telecommunications. You will be responsible for deploying, testing, and repairing various types of cabling, including fibre optic and copper, in diverse environments. This is a practical, field-based position requiring physical dexterity, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship. The successful candidate will work on projects across the Portsmouth area, contributing directly to the connectivity of businesses and homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and test fibre optic and copper cabling systems according to industry standards and specifications.
- Perform fault finding and repair on existing cabling infrastructure, diagnosing issues quickly and efficiently.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications for cabling installations.
- Manage and maintain cabling tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring they are in good working order.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations on all work sites.
- Collaborate with other team members and project managers to ensure timely project completion.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Telecoms Cabling Engineer or in a related field such as data cabling or fibre optic installation.
- Proficiency in using cable testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Good understanding of network infrastructure and telecommunications principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong work ethic.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and at heights.
- A relevant technical qualification or apprenticeship in telecommunications or electronics is advantageous.
