Trainee Civil Engineering Technician

About the Role

Our client is seeking aspiring individuals to join as Trainee Civil Engineering Technicians , working across various infrastructure projects in and around Derby, Derbyshire, UK . This role provides a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience in civil engineering, from site surveys and design support to construction monitoring. You will work closely with experienced engineers and technicians, learning to apply technical knowledge and contribute to the development of vital infrastructure. We are looking for candidates with a strong aptitude for problem-solving, a good understanding of basic mathematical principles, and a genuine interest in shaping the built environment. This hybrid role offers a blend of site-based and office-based learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting site surveys and collecting data for engineering projects.
• Support the design team by preparing drawings, plans, and technical documentation using CAD software.
• Undertake site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with design specifications.
• Perform basic calculations and analysis related to structural integrity and material properties.
• Learn and apply health and safety regulations on construction sites.
• Assist in the preparation of project reports and documentation.
• Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.

Requirements

• A keen interest in civil engineering and a desire to build a career in the construction industry.
• Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject (e.g., BTEC Engineering, Construction).
• Proficiency in basic mathematics and a good understanding of physics concepts.
• Familiarity with CAD software is an advantage.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.
