Destination Education is a growing, boutique-style education recruitment agency with a strong presence across London. We're a fast-paced, energetic and ambitious business, and we're looking for a Trainee Recruitment Consultant to join our team as we continue to grow and establish ourselves as a real force within the education recruitment market.
Working alongside a close-knit team of experienced recruiters and Directors, you'll have the opportunity to learn the recruitment industry from the ground up and make a genuine impact from day one. We're a business that believes in developing people from within — one of our Directors started their career with us as a Resourcer and has progressed through the business.
If you're ambitious, competitive and looking for a career rather than simply your next job, this could be the opportunity for you.
The Role
We're looking for a Trainee Recruitment Consultant to join our education recruitment team, working across Primary, SEN and EYFS recruitment in London and Essex.
This is a sales, resourcing and business development-focused role, and you'll be trained to become a fully-fledged 360 Recruitment Consultant. You'll initially learn the fundamentals of recruitment, including candidate sourcing, business development, relationship building and vacancy management.
As your confidence and experience develops, you'll take on increasing responsibility for winning new business, managing school relationships and building your own client base. You'll be supported by our experienced team throughout your training, with access to existing resources, vacancies and clients while you learn the role.
The long-term goal is for you to develop your own specialist recruitment desk, build strong client relationships and become a successful 360 Recruitment Consultant.
What you'll be doing
- Learning the recruitment industry and developing your knowledge of the education sector
- Making outbound calls to schools and prospective clients
- Building relationships with schools and key decision-makers
- Identifying new vacancies and recruitment opportunities
- Booking meetings and school visits
- Supporting the team with existing client relationships and vacancies
- Sourcing and interviewing education professionals
- Matching candidates to suitable vacancies
- Registering and managing candidates throughout the recruitment process
- Developing your understanding of sales, business development and recruitment
- Working towards agreed targets and KPIs
- Maintaining accurate records and keeping on top of your candidate and client activity
- Learning how to negotiate rates and manage the recruitment process from start to finish
- Progressively taking ownership of your own clients and vacancies
- Developing your own specialist recruitment desk as you progress
The role will initially involve a strong focus on learning, candidate recruitment and business development.
As you become more experienced, you'll progressively take ownership of your own clients and move towards a fully 360 recruitment position.
What we're looking for
Previous recruitment experience isn't essential.
We're more interested in your attitude, work ethic, ambition and ability to communicate with people than whether you've worked in recruitment before. You might be coming from a sales, retail, hospitality, customer service or graduate background — or you may simply be looking for your first opportunity in a professional sales environment.
Most importantly, you'll need to be someone who:
- Is ambitious and wants to build a successful career
- Is confident speaking to people and building relationships
- Is comfortable picking up the phone and making outbound calls
- Is motivated by targets and financial reward
- Is competitive and wants to succeed
- Has the resilience to deal with rejection and keep pushing forward
- Is hardworking and prepared to put the effort in
- Is confident, positive and personable
- Can work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Has excellent communication skills
- Is coachable and willing to learn
- Takes responsibility for their own performance
- Wants progression and isn't satisfied with standing still
We will be able to teach you how to become a successful recruitment consultant but what we can't teach is ambition, resilience, work ethic and the desire to succeed. But if you're prepared to learn, work hard and develop your skills, recruitment can offer excellent earning potential and genuine career progression.
What we offer
- £27,000 – £30,000 basic salary
- Commission structure discussed during the interview process
- Additional bonuses and incentives
- Top-biller lunches and other performance rewards
- Regular team lunches, dinners and social outings
- Full on-site training from experienced recruiters and Directors
- Ongoing coaching and support
- Regular one-to-one development conversations
- Monthly meetings and performance updates
- Reduced working hours during school holidays
- Genuine career progression within a growing business
- The opportunity to build your own recruitment desk
- Clear progression from Trainee to Recruitment Consultant and beyond
- The opportunity to progress into Senior, Client Management and Regional Management positions
Your Progression - We're serious about developing people from within.
As a Trainee Recruitment Consultant, you'll receive structured training and ongoing support to help you develop the skills required to become a successful 360 recruiter.
Your progression could look something like:
Trainee Recruitment Consultant → Recruitment Consultant → Senior Recruitment Consultant → Client Manager → Regional Manager
As you build your experience, performance and client base, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility and progress within the business. You'll be joining a company where progression isn't just something written on a job advert — our own Directors have built their careers within the business.
Why Destination Education?
We're growing.
We already have a strong presence across London, and we're continuing to expand our team and establish ourselves as a major player within the education recruitment market. Joining us at this stage means you'll have the opportunity to grow alongside the company, learn from experienced recruiters and build a career within a growing business.
You'll have the support of an experienced team, but you'll also be given responsibility and encouraged to develop your own skills and relationships. If you're ambitious, resilient and prepared to put the work in, there is no artificial ceiling on what you can achieve here.
Interested?
If you're looking for a career where hard work is recognised, performance is rewarded and progression is genuinely available, we'd love to hear from you.
You don't need recruitment experience.
You do need ambition, resilience, confidence and a willingness to work hard.
If you're ready to learn, get stuck in, pick up the phone, build relationships and develop a career in recruitment, Destination Education could be the place to start.
Start date: ASAP — candidates with up to one month's notice are welcome to apply
