Job Description
An established and growing freight forwarding business is looking for an experienced Transport Manager to build and manage its new transport division in Colchester . The company has recently acquired its Operator's Licence and brought its first vehicles in-house, with further growth planned. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants autonomy and the chance to build a transport operation from the ground up.
Overview
- Take full ownership of a new transport division.
- Manage a small commercial vehicle fleet, initially around 5-6 vehicles .
- Manage drivers, including agency drivers.
- Oversee scheduling, vehicle utilisation and daily operations.
- Ensure full compliance with the Operator's Licence and transport legislation.
- Develop processes and procedures for the new division.
- Identify opportunities to bring more work in-house.
- Work closely with the existing freight forwarding and operations teams.
- Help grow the transport operation as the business expands.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Transport Manager .
- Valid Transport Manager CPC .
- Strong knowledge of transport compliance and legislation.
- Experience managing commercial vehicles and drivers.
- Confident working independently and taking ownership.
- Proactive, dynamic and commercially minded approach.
- Ability to build and develop a transport operation from the ground up.
- Freight forwarding, haulage or courier experience is beneficial but not essential .
Salary & Benefits
- 45,000- 55,000 basic salary , depending on experience.
- Performance-related bonus.
- Full-time or part-time considered.
- Initially office-based while establishing the transport division.
