Underwriter - Specialty Lines

About the Role

Our client seeks an experienced Underwriter with a specialization in niche or specialty insurance lines to join their reputable team in Cardiff . In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating, accepting, or rejecting risks and determining appropriate premium rates for complex insurance applications. Your expertise will be crucial in assessing the potential for loss and ensuring that policies offered align with the company's underwriting philosophy and profitability targets. You will collaborate closely with brokers and internal teams to provide insightful risk analysis and maintain strong market relationships, contributing significantly to the profitability and growth of the specialty lines division.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse and assess complex insurance risks for specialty lines, including professional indemnity, cyber, or directors & officers liability.
• Determine appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing for accepted risks to achieve underwriting profitability.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and underwriting partners.
• Develop and implement underwriting strategies and guidelines for assigned specialty lines.
• Monitor portfolio performance and market trends, recommending adjustments as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and company policies.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Underwriter , with a focus on specialty or complex commercial insurance lines.
• In-depth knowledge of risk assessment techniques and underwriting principles.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with brokers.
• A professional qualification such as ACII or equivalent is highly regarded.
• Ability to work effectively within a team and manage a challenging workload.
