About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Underwriting Manager to lead their underwriting team in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is critical in assessing and managing risk, ensuring the profitability and growth of the company's insurance products. You will be responsible for developing underwriting strategies, setting guidelines, and guiding a team of underwriters to make sound decisions. Working predominantly from our city-centre office, you will collaborate closely with actuarial, sales, and claims departments to maintain a robust and competitive underwriting framework, contributing to the overall strategic direction of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective underwriting strategies and policies to manage risk appetite.
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of underwriters, setting performance standards and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Review and approve complex or high-value insurance applications, providing expert guidance.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes impacting underwriting.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing to ensure underwriting guidelines support business objectives.
- Analyze underwriting performance data and recommend adjustments to improve profitability and efficiency.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in insurance underwriting , with a strong track record in a management or supervisory role.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and manage complex risks across multiple insurance lines.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong understanding of financial principles, actuarial concepts, and regulatory compliance.
- Possession of relevant professional underwriting qualifications (e.g., ACII) is highly advantageous.
