About the Role
Our client is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Underwriting Manager to lead their underwriting team in Birmingham . This role is critical in assessing and managing risk, ensuring that the company's underwriting policies are effectively implemented and adhered to. You will be responsible for guiding a team of underwriters, making informed decisions on complex risks, and contributing to the profitability and growth of the insurance portfolio. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of risk management principles and a proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team within a challenging market, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of insurance underwriters, overseeing their daily operations and performance.
- Develop and implement underwriting strategies and guidelines to manage risk and achieve profitability targets.
- Review and approve complex or high-value insurance applications, making informed decisions on acceptance, rejection, or modification.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to adapt underwriting policies as needed.
- Collaborate with sales, actuarial, and claims departments to ensure a cohesive approach to risk management and product development.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in insurance underwriting, with a proven track record in a leadership or management role.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment, pricing methodologies, and insurance product knowledge.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of professionals.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACII) are highly advantageous.
