About the Role
Our client is actively seeking a strategic and analytical Underwriting Manager to lead their underwriting team in Birmingham . This role is instrumental in assessing and managing risk for new and existing insurance policies, ensuring the company's profitability and adherence to risk appetite. You will be responsible for developing and implementing underwriting strategies, guiding a team of underwriters, and collaborating with other departments to refine product offerings. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of financial markets and risk assessment methodologies, contributing to the sustainable growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Develop and implement effective underwriting policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Analyse and assess complex risks, making informed decisions on policy acceptance, pricing, and terms.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes impacting the underwriting landscape.
- Collaborate with sales, actuarial, and claims departments to ensure cohesive business strategy and risk management.
Requirements
- Significant experience in insurance underwriting, with a proven track record in managing underwriting teams.
- Strong understanding of risk assessment, financial analysis, and insurance products.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACII) are highly desirable.
