About the Role

Our client is looking for a strategic and analytical Underwriting Manager to lead their underwriting team in Birmingham . This role is crucial for assessing and managing insurance risks, ensuring the profitability and sustainability of the company's insurance products. You will be responsible for setting underwriting guidelines, overseeing the underwriting process, and developing strategies to maintain a balanced risk portfolio. Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of insurance underwriters, setting performance standards and objectives.
• Develop, implement, and enforce underwriting policies, guidelines, and procedures to manage risk effectively.
• Review and approve complex or high-value insurance applications, making informed decisions on risk acceptance and pricing.
• Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and emerging risks to refine underwriting strategies.
• Collaborate with sales, product development, and actuarial teams to ensure alignment and optimize product offerings.
• Monitor portfolio performance and implement corrective actions to maintain profitability and growth targets.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in insurance underwriting, with a proven track record in a management or supervisory role.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment, pricing methodologies, and financial analysis.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and decision-making skills.
• Familiarity with insurance regulations and compliance requirements in the UK market.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field; relevant professional certifications are a plus.
