About the Role
Our client is seeking a meticulous and analytical Underwriting Specialist to join their established insurance team in Newcastle upon Tyne . In this role, you will be responsible for assessing and pricing insurance risks, determining policy terms and conditions, and ensuring profitable growth for the company. You will work closely with brokers and agents to understand client needs and provide expert underwriting advice. This is a critical position within the underwriting department, offering the chance to make a significant impact on risk selection and profitability in the Tyne and Wear region, fostering a culture of expertise and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate insurance applications, assessing risk factors and determining appropriate policy terms, conditions, and premiums.
- Apply underwriting guidelines and authority limits consistently and accurately.
- Collaborate with sales and broking teams to provide clear underwriting feedback and solutions for clients.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends or potential risks within specific market segments.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with intermediaries to foster business growth and retention.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities impacting the underwriting landscape.
Requirements
- Proven experience in insurance underwriting , preferably within a specific line of business (e.g., commercial, personal lines).
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent understanding of risk assessment principles and insurance products.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and systems.
- Professional qualifications such as ACII or equivalent are advantageous.
