Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a reliable and hands-on Warehouse Operative to join a leading specialist plumbing and heating merchant at their branch in East Sussex. Supplying both trade professionals and retail customers, the company operates busy trade branches alongside bathroom and designer heating showrooms, delivering top-quality products, design services, and specialist spares across the region.

This is a crucial role where you will play a key part in keeping the warehouse running safely, efficiently, and professionally. Working as part of a supportive and friendly team, you will ensure seamless stock control, accurate order fulfilment, and outstanding service to both internal teams and visiting trade customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately picking customer orders from the warehouse to ensure prompt collection and delivery.

• Loading and unloading delivery vehicles, checking stock quantities, and inspecting goods for condition.

• Putting stock away efficiently and keeping products neatly organized and easy to locate.

• Preparing orders for customer collections and outgoing delivery runs.

• Safely loading delivery vans and assisting drivers with their delivery routes when needed.

• Safely moving plumbing, heating, and bulky items around the warehouse and yard area.

• Conducting regular stock checks and reporting any discrepancies, damaged goods, or shortages.

• Serving trade customers who are collecting orders directly from the warehouse or trade counter.

• Maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe environment across the warehouse and yard.

• Operating a forklift/counterbalance where required by the branch.

• Assisting other areas of the branch during busy periods to support overall branch operations.

Requirements

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to locate, pick, and prepare stock accurately.

• High attention to detail when checking delivery paperwork, quantities, and product codes.

• Good physical fitness, comfortable lifting and moving heavy plumbing and heating materials.

• Excellent reliability and punctuality, understanding the importance of time-critical deliveries and customer collections.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a positive approach to customer service.

• Awareness of Health & Safety standards, safe manual handling techniques, and warehouse safety.

• Ability to work efficiently and keep pace during busy morning periods.

• Previous merchant experience

• Basic product knowledge or prior experience within plumbing, heating, or a builders' merchant environment is advantageous.

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday: 7:00am - 5:00pm

Saturday: 8:00am - 12:00pm
