Requirements
- Must hold DV clearance.
- Experienced Windows Engineer with the ability to work comfortably across both Infrastructure and Workplace.
- Hands-on skills and in-depth expertise across Windows Server, Windows OS, and Desktop Applications.
- Experience with virtualisation platforms, including VDI.
- Experience with storage solutions.
- Experience with AD and access management.
- Knowledge of networking principles.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide operational BAU support, administration, and configuration management across Infrastructure and Workplace Windows environments in restricted secret and above networks.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of our business IT environment.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance and patching across the Windows environments in restricted secret and above networks.
- Access and implement changes to the restricted Windows environment, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Create, maintain, and audit inventory information and asset registers as required.
- Create, maintain, and review comprehensive, high-quality documentation as required.
- Create and maintain standard problem resolution and fix documentation to keep technical knowledge bases up to date.
- Resolve incidents related to Windows Services across restricted secret and above networks in line with agreed SLAs and escalation processes.
- Act as Tier 2 / Tier 3 support for Windows-related issues and problem resolution, including incident response, investigation, and remediation within SLA timeframes.
- Coordinate with incident and technical managers during high-severity incidents.
- Identify root causes of recurring incidents and assist in implementing long-term solutions.
- Participate in lessons learned activities, conduct root cause analysis, and document findings as part of our continuous improvement cycle.
- Ensure update and closure of all incidents and requests assigned to the team queue in accordance with SLA.
- Stay current with developments in Windows technologies, products, practices, and trends.
- Support monitoring and alerting across restricted secret and above networks, responding proactively to alerts and implementing threshold and health-based remediation actions as appropriate.
- Monitor and optimise network/server performance, security, and backups.
- Ensure compliance with security guidance and best practice in line with our adopted security postures.
- Interface with agreed third-party service providers for assistance, technical support, troubleshooting, and network management, and provide technical guidance to suppliers.
- Bring forward key issues, changes, and topics to service meetings for discussion.
- Participate in cross-functional team collaboration as required.

We are a world-class defence organisation recruiting 2x Windows Engineer subcontractors on an initial 12-month contract. This is a 37-hour-per-week role based in Stevenage, with overtime paid at time and a quarter for hours worked over 37 per week. The contract is initially 12 months with the potential for ongoing, long-term work. This role is inside IR35 (umbrella) and is 100% site-based due to the nature of the network. Our Digital Excellence function provides IT services to the business.
