Woodland Ecologist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable Woodland Ecologist to join their environmental consultancy based in Bristol . This role is crucial for assessing and managing the ecological value of woodlands, ensuring that conservation objectives are met alongside sustainable forestry practices. You will undertake detailed ecological surveys, develop management plans, and advise clients on biodiversity enhancement and habitat protection, contributing to the preservation and improvement of woodland ecosystems across the South West of England, playing a key role in safeguarding our natural heritage.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys to assess woodland biodiversity, including flora, fauna, and habitat quality.
• Develop ecological management plans and conservation strategies for woodland sites.
• Advise on the impact of forestry operations and development projects on woodland ecosystems.
• Prepare ecological reports for planning applications, environmental impact assessments, and conservation grants.
• Monitor the effectiveness of habitat management interventions and recommend adaptive measures.

Requirements

• Degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in woodland ecology or related field surveys.
• Proficiency in species identification and ecological survey techniques.
• Familiarity with relevant environmental legislation and planning policies.
• Excellent report writing and data analysis skills, with a strong understanding of woodland ecosystems.
