Academic Advisor - Online Programs

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Academic Advisor to support students enrolled in their online programs, based in Edinburgh . In this role, you will provide essential guidance and support to students throughout their academic journey, helping them navigate course selection, academic policies, and career development opportunities. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring student success and retention within a flexible, online learning environment. This position requires excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of student support services in higher education.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide personalized academic advising to a caseload of online students, offering guidance on degree requirements, course registration, and academic planning.
• Assist students in understanding and adhering to university policies, procedures, and academic standards.
• Support student retention efforts by proactively identifying students who may need additional assistance and connecting them with appropriate resources.
• Help students explore career paths and connect their academic pursuits to future professional goals.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student records and track student progress.
• Collaborate with faculty, admissions, and student support services to ensure a cohesive student experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Counselling, Student Affairs, or a related field. Master's preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic advising, student support, or a related role, preferably with online students.
• Strong understanding of academic programs and university structures.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
• Proficiency in student information systems and e-learning platforms.
