Hays are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing organisation within the construction and engineering sector for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join their finance team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. Your new role
As Accounts Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business. Working closely with the wider finance team, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring critical accounting processes are completed efficiently and accurately.Key duties will include:
- Managing the purchase ledger function, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Administering Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) processes, including subcontractor verification and monthly submissions.
- Completing supplier statement reconciliations and investigating any discrepancies.
- Supporting month-end finance activities and maintaining accurate accounting records.
- Acting as the internal lead for project management software, assisting with system administration, user support and process improvements.
- Building effective relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Assisting the finance team with reporting, administration and ad hoc finance duties as required.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Accounts Assistant with a strong background in construction finance and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.You will have:
- Proven experience within a purchase ledger position.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of CIS administration.
- Experience completing supplier statement reconciliations.
- Previous experience working within the construction, engineering or related project-based sectors.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
Desirable skills include:
- Experience using Sage 200.
- Exposure to project management software.
- AAT qualification, or currently studying towards one.
- Knowledge of Intrastat reporting.
- Experience supporting finance process improvements or system implementations.
