Arboricultural Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Arboricultural Officer to join their team in Aberdeen, Scotland . This crucial role involves managing and protecting the city's valuable tree stock, ensuring public safety, and promoting biodiversity within urban and peri-urban green spaces. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing tree management strategies that align with environmental goals and community needs. This position offers the chance to work outdoors, contribute to the environmental well-being of a historic city, and engage with various stakeholders, including the public, developers, and other council departments, fostering a greater appreciation for our natural heritage.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections of trees on public land to assess health, structural integrity, and potential risks.
• Develop and oversee tree planting, maintenance, and removal programs in accordance with best arboricultural practices and local policies.
• Provide expert advice on tree-related issues, including planning applications, development sites, and public consultations.
• Manage contracts with external arboricultural service providers, ensuring quality and compliance.
• Investigate and respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding trees.
• Maintain accurate records of tree surveys, inspections, and management activities using GIS and other relevant software.

Requirements

• Degree or HND in Arboriculture, Forestry, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in professional tree management or consultancy.
• Proficiency in tree hazard assessment and species identification.
• Knowledge of relevant UK legislation and planning policies pertaining to trees.
• Experience in using GIS software for data management and mapping is advantageous.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
