Assistant Headteacher (Pastoral Care)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated educational leader to serve as Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Pastoral Care at a secondary school in Bristol . This senior leadership role involves overseeing student welfare, behaviour management, and safeguarding across the school, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all pupils. You will work closely with Heads of Year, tutors, and external agencies to foster positive student behaviour and well-being, playing a key role in shaping the school's ethos and culture. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, and a profound commitment to student welfare.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the school's pastoral care systems, including behaviour, attendance, and safeguarding.
• Develop and implement effective policies and strategies to promote positive student behaviour and well-being.
• Oversee the work of Heads of Year and form tutors, providing guidance and support.
• Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), ensuring compliance with all safeguarding legislation and procedures.
• Liaise with parents, external agencies, and the wider community on matters relating to student welfare.
• Contribute to the strategic leadership and development of the school as part of the Senior Leadership Team.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• Significant experience in a leadership role within a secondary school, preferably with pastoral responsibilities.
• Proven track record of effective behaviour management and safeguarding leadership.
• A deep understanding of child protection, safeguarding, and pastoral care best practices.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to inspire and motivate both staff and students.
