Assistant Manager job in Bournemouth

Salary: Around £30,000 depending on experience, rising to £33,000 for a qualified Dispensing Optician.
Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week
Location: North Dorset / East Dorset border

Important Requirement: Previous management experience within optics essential

This is a particularly lovely opportunity for someone who wants genuine responsibility without losing that close-knit, family feel.

The practice forms part of a successful and established optical group, with a real emphasis on investing in its people and practices. The wider group operates well-equipped practices and has invested heavily in advanced clinical equipment, including OCT, also offering Optomap technology and advanced dry-eye services.

The current team is performing well, so this isn't about walking into a struggling store and having to turn everything around. Instead, you'll be joining an established team and taking the lead in maintaining that momentum, developing people and continuing to build on the success already there.

What's on Offer:

• Bonus based on team sales, paid every two months
• 31 days holiday including bank holidays
• Access to a range of company perks and benefits
• Free spectacles
• Spectacle discounts for family and friends
• Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
• Supportive and approachable leadership
• Opportunity to work with premium and designer eyewear
• Access to advanced clinical technology including OCT and Optomap
• Convenient town-centre location with good public transport links
• The opportunity to become part of a genuinely close-knit optical group

Responsibilities:

• Motivating and developing a diverse team
• Delivering staff training and supporting ongoing development
• Managing rotas and holiday planning
• Supporting absence, return-to-work and grievance processes
• Supporting strong sales performance and team targets
• Providing expert dispensing advice and delivering an exceptional customer experience

What we are looking for:

• Previous management experience within optics
• Strong dispensing and customer service experience
• Confidence in motivating a diverse team
• A collaborative and approachable leadership style
• Good organisational skills
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of how to drive performance
• The confidence to lead from the front while still being part of the team
