Audit Executive

We are working with a well established and growing accountancy practice that is looking to recruit an Audit Executive to join its team in Gatwick.

This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified ACA or ACCA professional, or someone with around a year of post qualification experience, to take the next step in their audit career within a supportive and forward thinking environment.

You will work with a varied portfolio of clients, taking responsibility for audit assignments, building strong client relationships and supporting the development of more junior team members. The role offers a balance of hands on technical audit work, client management and supervisory responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to continue developing your technical expertise and leadership skills.

The firm places a strong emphasis on professional development, employee wellbeing and career progression, offering access to ongoing training, a supportive management structure and opportunities to shape your longer term career.

Key Responsibilities

As an Audit Executive, you will oversee audit assignments, ensuring work is planned effectively, completed to a high standard and delivered within agreed deadlines.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing client correspondence and maintaining effective communication throughout the audit process.

• Coordinating audit schedules and agreeing suitable timings for assignments with clients.

• Planning audit engagements, identifying key risk areas and determining the most effective approach to gathering audit evidence.

• Preparing draft budgets where required and monitoring assignment progress against agreed timeframes and fees.

• Delegating, supervising and reviewing work completed by senior and junior team members.

• Providing regular feedback to colleagues, addressing review points and supporting the development of the wider team.

• Ensuring audit files are complete, all review points have been addressed and assignments are ready for final review by the Manager or Partner.

• Taking responsibility for your own client portfolio where appropriate, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring a high standard of service.

• Undertaking more complex or critical audit areas on selected assignments.

• Monitoring work in progress across your portfolio and communicating potential delays, budget overruns or write offs to senior management promptly.

• Monitoring statutory filing deadlines and ensuring relevant submissions, including corporation tax and Companies House filings, are completed on time.

• Identifying opportunities to introduce clients to other relevant services offered by the wider business.

• Working collaboratively with colleagues to improve efficiency, maintain quality standards and deliver positive client outcomes.

RequirementsYou will ideally have:

• ACA, ACCA or ICAS qualification, with previous experience working within an accountancy practice.

• Newly qualified status or approximately one year of post qualification experience.

• Experience working on audit assignments, including planning, fieldwork, reviewing and completion.

• The ability to supervise and delegate work effectively, supporting junior colleagues and maintaining quality standards.

• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with clients and colleagues at different levels.

• A client focused approach, with an understanding of commercial considerations, budgets and service delivery.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify risks, resolve issues and exercise sound professional judgement.

• Good IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Word. Experience with audit and accounting software such as CaseWare, Sage and relevant tax or practice management systems would be beneficial.

• A proactive attitude and a genuine interest in developing your technical knowledge and progressing your career.

BenefitsThe successful candidate will benefit from a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, alongside opportunities for continued professional and personal development.

Benefits include:

• Competitive salary: A package reflective of your experience and qualifications.

• Hybrid working: Two days working from home, supporting a healthy work life balance.

• Flexible hours: Core working hours between 10am and 2pm, providing flexibility around your wider commitments.

• Employee wellbeing: Access to a confidential, 24 hour employee assistance programme, including counselling and virtual GP services for you and your family.
