Body Engineer - Exterior Trim

BODY ENGINEER – Exterior Trim

Rate: (Negotiable – in line with experience)

RLE is looking for competent exterior trim engineers to support the engineering & launch of a luxury car program for a premium vehicle OEM based in the midlands.

Engineering, release, development and document compilation for exterior trim components. Particular knowledge of engineering plastics & composites like SMC & carbon fibre materials is preferred.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

• Lead design activities for CAD Designers, Provide guidance and technical direction.

• Generate and update minutes for relevant PMST meetings.

• Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends.

• Liaise with Suppliers to ensure design and develop components & systems are manufacturable and meet all specified requirements such as weight, cost, durability and performance.

• Manage Suppliers to ensure parts are delivered on time to the required quality standard.

• Work closely with Manufacturing and Launch engineers to enable swift and accurate fitment of components to vehicles.

• Assist with the Design Verification and Sign Off reporting.

• Support vehicle tests with components where required.

• Participate in DFMEAs, Quality history reviews, Robustness studies etc.

Skills Required

• Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification

• Intuitive knowledge of fundamental engineering theory

• Experience of at least one full cycle of hands on design, development & launch on a vehicle program.

• Clear understanding of the generic design and release process including change control.

• Engineering problem solving experience, particularly focused on exterior trim content.

• Previous experience within the automotive sector.

• Ability to manage multiple demands on time and priorities.
