Job Description
Your Company:
NET Recruit is proud to be partnering with a highly established defence business operating nationally, with offices in Hampshire, in their search for a Building Surveyor to join their growing property and infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity for a building surveying professional to work across a diverse range of building and infrastructure projects, supporting the assessment, maintenance, improvement, and development of properties and facilities.
With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality solutions within demanding and highly regulated environments, the business works closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure buildings remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose. The successful candidate will play an important role in undertaking building surveys, identifying defects, advising on remedial works, and supporting the delivery of projects throughout the property lifecycle.
Your Role and Responsibilities
While in this position, your duties may include but are not limited to:
- Carrying out building surveys, inspections, and condition assessments across a range of properties and facilities.
- Identifying building defects, structural concerns, maintenance requirements, and areas requiring remedial work.
- Preparing detailed survey reports, technical recommendations, and documentation outlining findings and proposed solutions.
- Advising on building maintenance, refurbishment, repair, and improvement works.
- Supporting the preparation of specifications, schedules of work, and tender documentation.
- Assisting with the planning, coordination, and monitoring of building projects from initial assessment through to completion.
- Inspecting works on site to assess quality, progress, and compliance with relevant specifications and standards.
- Liaising with contractors, clients, project managers, and other professional consultants to support effective project delivery.
- Providing technical advice on building materials, construction methods, defects, and appropriate remedial solutions.
- Supporting the management of planned and reactive maintenance requirements across buildings and facilities.
- Ensuring building works comply with relevant building regulations, health and safety requirements, and applicable industry standards.
- Reviewing technical drawings, reports, specifications, and other project documentation.
- Assisting with cost estimates, project budgets, and the monitoring of expenditure associated with repair and refurbishment works.
- Identifying potential risks and providing practical recommendations to support the safe and efficient operation of buildings.
- Maintaining accurate records of inspections, surveys, project progress, and technical findings.
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered to the required standards, within agreed timescales, and in line with client requirements.
What You Will Need to Apply:
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need previous experience in building surveying or a closely related property, construction, or building maintenance role. You should have a good understanding of building construction, property condition assessments, common building defects, and the principles of repair and refurbishment.
You will ideally have experience undertaking building inspections, preparing technical reports, identifying defects, and recommending appropriate remedial works. Knowledge of building regulations, health and safety legislation, and relevant industry standards would also be advantageous.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, together with the ability to assess technical issues and develop practical, cost-effective solutions. You should be confident reviewing technical documentation, maintaining accurate records, and communicating your findings clearly to clients and other project stakeholders.
Excellent communication and organisational skills are required, as you will be working with contractors, project managers, consultants, and wider multidisciplinary teams. You should be comfortable managing competing priorities, working independently when required, and maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
Experience working within a Defence, infrastructure, commercial property, construction, or other regulated environment would be beneficial. Candidates who already hold SC clearance, or who are eligible and willing to obtain the necessary clearance, would be particularly desirable.
A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a closely related discipline would be advantageous. Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), or progress towards professional accreditation, would also be beneficial.
What You Will Get in Return:
In return for your skills and experience, the company is offering a salary of up to £45,000, depending on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package and the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of property, building, and infrastructure projects within the Defence sector.
You will join an established and supportive professional environment where you will have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and gain experience across a range of building surveying activities. Working alongside experienced professionals and multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to projects involving building condition assessments, maintenance, refurbishment, and property improvement.
The business is committed to maintaining high professional standards and supporting the development of its people, providing an environment where you can continue to build your expertise and progress your career.
If you are a Building Surveyor looking for an opportunity to apply your technical skills within a challenging and forward-thinking Defence organisation, this could be an excellent opportunity for your next career move.
