Category Buyer - FMCG Groceries

About the Role

Our client, a leading entity in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry, is seeking a strategic and experienced Category Buyer specializing in groceries to join their procurement team. This is a fully remote position, enabling you to manage supplier relationships and sourcing strategies from anywhere in the UK. You will be responsible for identifying, negotiating with, and managing suppliers to ensure the procurement of high-quality grocery products at competitive prices, directly impacting the company's product offering and profitability. This role requires a sharp negotiator with a deep understanding of the grocery market and supply chain dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement sourcing strategies for the grocery category to meet cost, quality, and service level targets.
• Identify, evaluate, and select new suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and contracts.
• Manage existing supplier relationships, fostering strong partnerships and ensuring performance adherence.
• Analyze market trends, pricing, and competitor activity to inform procurement decisions.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including category managers and product development, to align procurement activities with business needs.
• Monitor inventory levels and work with logistics to ensure efficient supply chain operations for grocery items.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in procurement or buying, ideally within the FMCG grocery sector .
• Proven track record in supplier negotiation, contract management, and cost reduction initiatives.
• Strong understanding of the grocery market, including product sourcing, quality standards, and supply chain logistics.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and financial information.
• Effective communication, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Economics, or a related field.
