About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic and experienced Category Buyer to join their dynamic purchasing department for the FMCG division in Plymouth . This role is pivotal in sourcing and managing a specific category of products, ensuring competitive pricing, high quality, and reliable supply to meet business demands. You will be responsible for developing category strategies, negotiating with suppliers, and collaborating closely with internal teams to optimize product assortment and profitability. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of procurement principles within the fast-moving consumer goods market and excellent analytical and negotiation skills. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective sourcing strategies for assigned product categories within the FMCG sector.
• Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
• Manage supplier relationships, performance, and contracts to ensure continuous supply and quality.
• Analyze market trends, product costs, and competitor activities to identify opportunities for savings and product improvement.
• Collaborate with category managers, sales, and marketing teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and consumer needs.
• Monitor inventory levels and contribute to demand forecasting to ensure optimal stock availability in Plymouth .

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Category Buyer , Buyer, or Procurement Specialist, ideally within the FMCG industry .
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Solid understanding of procurement best practices, contract management, and supply chain dynamics.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field.
