Category Manager - Indirect Spend

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and strategic Category Manager to lead the procurement of indirect spend categories, working remotely from anywhere in the UK . This pivotal role involves developing and implementing category strategies, managing significant supplier relationships, and driving substantial cost savings and value creation across the organization. You will be responsible for analyzing spend, identifying opportunities, and leading complex sourcing projects to ensure we secure the best possible terms for services and goods. This is a fully remote position, offering unparalleled flexibility and the chance to make a significant impact on a national scale from Sunderland , or indeed any location within the UK .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive category strategies for key indirect spend areas (e.g., IT, Marketing, HR, Facilities).
• Lead cross-functional teams through complex sourcing events, from requirements gathering to contract award and implementation.
• Conduct in-depth market analysis and supplier assessments to identify risks and opportunities.
• Negotiate high-value contracts, ensuring optimal pricing, service levels, and risk mitigation.
• Manage and develop key supplier relationships, fostering collaboration and driving performance improvements.
• Monitor category performance against KPIs, reporting on savings, value, and compliance.

Requirements

• Significant experience (7+ years) in strategic sourcing, category management, or procurement, with a strong focus on indirect spend.
• Proven success in leading large-scale, complex sourcing projects and contract negotiations.
• Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proficiency in procurement best practices and market-leading sourcing tools.
• A degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience (e.g., CIPS).
