Chemical Engineer - Plant Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking a hands-on Chemical Engineer to focus on plant operations and continuous improvement in Edinburgh . This role involves ensuring the efficient and safe day-to-day running of chemical production units, identifying and implementing process enhancements, and supporting capital projects. You will work closely with operations teams, maintenance, and safety personnel to optimize plant performance and maintain regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is pragmatic, solution-oriented, and thrives in a dynamic plant environment, contributing to a culture of operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and optimize plant operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and product quality.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for plant processes.
• Participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement recommendations.
• Support the commissioning and start-up of new equipment and process modifications.
• Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for process improvement.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience in a chemical plant operations or production support role.
• Practical understanding of chemical plant equipment and processes.
• Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) and environmental regulations.
• Experience with data analysis and root cause analysis techniques.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills for effective plant floor interaction.
