Chemical Engineer - Process Safety Focus

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a dedicated Chemical Engineer with a strong focus on process safety to join their established operations in Edinburgh . This critical role ensures that all chemical processes meet rigorous safety standards and regulatory requirements, safeguarding personnel, the environment, and company assets. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive safety assessments, implementing robust safety management systems, and promoting a proactive safety culture across all operational sites. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining our client's reputation for operational excellence and commitment to health and safety in the chemical sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain process safety management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations (e.g., COMAH).
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on process safety aspects to project teams and operational staff.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to employees at all levels.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical or process industries.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety principles, standards, and methodologies.
• Experience with risk assessment techniques and safety software.
• Excellent understanding of relevant UK and international safety legislation.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to drive safety initiatives effectively.
